Limaland Motorsports Park releases 2023 Schedule
Limaland Motorsports Park is set to begin its 88th season of racing and 26th season under the ownership of the University of Northwestern Ohio. 13 events make up the 2023 season, with no shortage of action for the fans of the speedplant located in Allentown, Ohio.
Returning in 2023 will be the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and the Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks under the banner of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Drivers and teams in the Modifieds and Thunderstocks will compete not only locally, but also in regional points chases under NASCAR sanctioning.
With the sale of the NRA Sprint Invaders in 2022 to Great Lakes Super Sprints owner Barry Marlow, a new partnership was formed that will see not only the return of the NRA to Limaland in 2023, but the addition of multiple events for the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints – the non wing sprint car series also owned by Marlow.
The always exciting Dirt Track Truck Series will be in action for multiple events during the 2023 season. Andy King has made great strides in developing this great entry level series, and will be fun to watch at Limaland!
The USAC Midwest Thunder Midgets also make their return to Limaland in 2023. With returning stars, and up and coming drivers, the D2 midgets put on some of the best racing around.
In 2023, Limaland Motorsports Park will present a special event every week, beginning with the Season Opening Shootout on Friday May 5th, welcoming the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders, along with the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks.
The 3rd Annual Mike Streicher Memorial takes place on Friday, May 12th, featuring the USAC Midwest Thunder Midgets competing in the event honoring the late 1990 USAC National Midget Champion. Streicher left behind a legacy as a car builder, mechanic, teacher, and friend, and every one of the competitors will be chomping at the bit to add their name to the list of winners of this event. Also, in action will be the Dirt Track Truck Series, the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks.
The next two weekends see 3 exciting classes of racing action. Friday, May 19th will be the annual Run For The Rabbit featuring the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders, honoring the late Travis “The Rabbit” Miller. The Elida, OH native cut his teeth in a sprint car at Limaland Motorsports Park and left an impression on all who knew him. The DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks will also be in action. Then on Friday May 26th, the Memorial Cup takes place with the same 3 classes kicking off the Memorial Day weekend.
The Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks get their night to shine on Friday, June 2, the 21st Annual Keysor Memorial. This big event for the stock cars never fails to bring a ton of excitement as the Thunderstocks compete and honor the late members of the Keysor family, whose roots are strongly embedded in the history of Limaland. Joining the Thunderstocks in their first ever visit to Limaland will be the Great Lake Traditional Sprints. Based out of Michigan, the GLTS has a strong following of great non wing sprint car teams, and promise to bring a very exciting night of racing. Also, in action will be the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and the Dirt Track Truck Series.
Friday June 9th sees the NRA Sprints, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks back in action as Limaland celebrates the memory of one of the biggest supporters of local racing with the 3rd Annual Ron Kahle Jr. Memorial.
The month of June wraps up with the 3rd Annual Tribute to “Mr. Excitement” Tim Allison on Friday, June 23rd, and Firecracker Friday on Friday, June 30th. Both events will feature the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks.
July opens with a break in the racing at Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, July 7th, followed by 2 tripleheaders of racing in the form of Meet the Drivers Night on Friday, July 14th, and the K&L Ready Mix Clash on Friday, July 28th. Fans will be treated to action featuring the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks on both of these nights.
The final points event for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks takes place on Friday, July 28th on Season Championship Night. Joining the racing action will be the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints for their final visit to Limaland for the 2023 racing season.
Wrapping up the year on Friday, August 4th will be Awards Celebration Night – King of the Quarter Mile, featuring invitational features for the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, and the Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks. Following the invitational features, drivers from the Modifieds and Thunderstocks will join all of us and be presented with their season championship awards in front of the grandstands. Then the feature winners from the NRA, Modifieds, and Thunderstocks will compete for the coveted King of the Quarter Mile trophies and final big money payouts of the season. Once the final checkered flag flies and cars are off the track, we invite everyone to join us in the pit area to celebrate the season with the annual Pit Party. Food and drinks prepared by Lock Sixteen included in the price of admission. Raindate for this event is Friday, August 11th.
